These slender vases are decorated with a stylized floral pattern in which the larger elements are outlined in black. Areas that might otherwise have been painted with a solid color are filled with thin black lines that suggest the hatching used to create shading in engravings. The sophisticated interplay between background and foreground is enhanced by the use of jagged delineating lines.
