The coloquinte (flattened gourd) form, here laterally joined with a twin, was especially popular among French ceramists of the fin de siecle. It reflects the renewed taste for naturalism inspired by Japanese tea ceremony ceramics. This conjoined form seems to be unique to Edmond Lachenal's oeuvre. Designed by Lachenal for Jos. Mougin of Nancy, France.
Marks: Jos. Mougin Nancy in script under glaze.
