Delphin Massier's alluring iridescent bottle-shaped vase employs a combination of dripping, craquelure, etching and painting to create a shimmering lily pond landscape. In vibrant shades of turquoise, gold, pink, and lavender, the scene includes rippling water, water lilies and leaves, and allusions to overhanging trees. It is as compelling a depiction of the subject as Impressionist Claude Monet's canvas of a lily pond at Giverny painted in 1899.
Marks: Painted glaze, Delphin Massier, Vallauris (AM).
