The symmetry of the background against the disjointed foreground gives a sense of a space that both surges forward and recedes as it opens up onto the view of an idyllic, cerulean blue lake. The reeling is offset by the silken spider's web that spans the image, defining the spacial location of the surface and asserting a supreme sense of stillness.
